I was skeptical at first, but his wrap up made complete sense. It is not that the green/orange drops matter, so much as it is that they will/can drop in moderate amounts of time invested. http://www.alexc.me/a-scientific-explanation-why-diablo-3-is-less-addictive-than-diablo-2/417/ Also, for the more hardcore players, I think the usefulness of these "legendary" items needs tweaked... decent read, don't agree with all parts, but adding weapons like this could definitely spice things up. http://diablo.incgamers.com/blog/co...h-diablo-iiis-legendaries#.T84XRmxDs30.reddit Regards,
Explains a lot about how I feel about the game. I still like the game, but good or even decent loot drops (for myself) are very few and far between. It's mostly disappointing. I'd prefer not to use the AH til 60+ but I am forced to.
That is an invalid argument, not wanting to use the AH, would mean their should be loot progression. If that is the case, you would want the loot system to work more like WoW? Their system is exactly the same as D2. Except now instead of dated trade channels, you have the convenience of an AH, and the ability to spam trade channels while in game. GRANTED: both the AH and trade channels could use some tweaking.
I don't think it's an invalid argument. I feel like I was able to find better gear in D2 on a more frequent basis than I have been in D3. That said, I have been using the AH, but only because I literally can't progress past certain points without doing it... which is frustrating and I don't think that's how the game should have been designed. Rather than kill a hard pack of mobs, get something decent out of it, and keep going... the game forces me to exit out of my session, go to the AH, browse for an hour while I try to find good deals on decent gear... and then go back. IDK... it just feels odd to me. The whole process is very stop and go.
Yea invalid was the wrong word to use. Semi flawed ;-) is what I meant. That being said, Diablo 2 was way worse for gearing up. Imagine spamming chat channels trying to find that one item? This didn't take hours it took days. Remember making games with the name "WTB 12/2 VGaze 4 Jahx2"... and having to constantly remake this game until someone bit for a trade? And I know NO ONE, who completely geared themselves out (to play at a maximum level) through playing the game itself and never trading. Most of the people that did think they geared out could not even run baal runs at an acceptable rate on hell. AH is way more convenient, and useful. It does not take much gear or anything to progress up to level 50-55 hell... you can do it with good level 20-30 gear on any class. As for inferno though... that is a different story. No matter how geared you are, it is way over tuned and will be brought down over time. As for drops in D2, they seemed to happen more often, but getting something useful was still few and far between. After duping, most of it was garbage, which is why they had ladder resets. After runeword upgrades, all legendary gear meant practically nothing. Having 10-20 items that were desirable out of tens of thousands of other randomized items is not very smart. I dig rares being the stronger item, but I also think legendaries should be a little stronger. Currently getting the one piece of unique gear is more of a curse than a blessing.
In D2 I played offline with my girlfriend. If I wanted a certain item I had to grind levels and HOPE I would find it. So now wut!
Guarentee you did not get nearly as many items as you wanted/needed. Not saying it is impossible, but no one in ladder play (where the majority plays) could grind for gear alone. People seem to forget what diablo is. A loot slot machine.
