IS THE PS3 BECOMING A GOOD CONSOLE?

All of a sudden the PS3 doesn't really suck anymore. This bothers the hell out of me. Is it becoming...a good system? Should 360 users feel threatened? What is becoming of the world?!!

    PS3:
-Uncharted, inFamous, LBP, GT, Killzone, Motorstorm, Resistance, Metal Gear, God of War
    -Competitive price (finally)
    -Free live service
-Does NOT suffer from 3 Rings of Death
    -Blu Ray player

    360:
-Mass Effect, Gears, Halo, L4D, Forza, Alan Wake, Fable, Crackdown, Saints Row, Prey, Dead Rising, Shadow Complex
    -Has always been reasonably priced
-Inarguably superior live service (chat functionality, reliability, features, etc)
    -Netflix, Facebook, Twitter integration
-XBLA Throwbacks like Doom, Wolfenstein, Secret of Monkey Island, etc.

I open the floor....to all of yoooooouuuuu.....

Re: IS THE PS3 BECOMING A GOOD CONSOLE?

    PS3:
-Game selection: too little, too late. Aside from Uncharted, MGS, and GoW, there is nothing that impressive about their game selection

    -Price: too little, too late

-Free Live Service: would rather pay for a premium service, than put up with a free turd. The service is poor and cannot support more hardcore multiplayer games... even normal games for that matter

-Quality Concerns: PS3 still had quality problems, but no where near Microsofts 50%+ defect ratio. I give Sony/Japanese props for this, as more often than not they put out solid products. However, experiencing this issue recently, I found that when an XBOX dies, there is a simple way to get it replaced for free, and extend your warranty, just takes some smooth talking and a plan. I walked away with two brand new xboxes when my original bit the dust

-Blu ray player... I do not need or want this. 90% of my movies are regular DVDs, and the other 10% are downloaded... maybe its just me, but the image quality on blu ray movies is too good... it makes the movies look fake/cheap. The only plus side is larger games, but I have not seen any issue with XBOX games fitting on one disc... Only Mass Effect 2 is going to be on 2 discs, and I think that is a small price to pay

-Omni software tool: I think you forgot to mention that PS3 software development software is too new, and many developers are unfamiliar with it. Resulting in poor ports of games, and a lake of content/software for PS3

    360
-Probably the best gaming library out of all the consoles
-Price is good, could be lower, but will not break the bank (Elite w/ 120gb HD, and 2 free games for $300 is not that bad)
-XBL is cheap, I mean $35-$45 for a year of service is quite cheap... thats like 2 months MMO service. It functions very smoothly and without much hassle
-All the multimedia software, and mainstream programs will eventually be on both consoles, but Microsofts PC past give them an advantage when getting started
-Arcade games on XBL are superior to the ones on PS3 and there is more to choose from

My opinion, unless both my XBOXes break simultaneously, I will not be getting a PS3 until they come out with a must have game, that is exclusive for their console. I was close to buying one this year... but ended up just buying another xbox to play modern warfare 2.

On the topic of price, a few weeks before Christmas Sony stopped shipping the 120gb consoles in an effort to sell more 250 slims. WTG Sony, congratulations on underhanded and generally shitty business practices. Sneaky Japs.

3 rings is fixed easily and is included in extended warranty coverage since Microsoft recognized that this shouldn't be happening. Now the PS3 slims have overheating problems because the power they try to pack into such a small space is just too much. There's not enough room to cool it down passively.

However, the BluRay player is still an excellent item. If PS3 had any games I was interested in playing, I'd own both an Xbox360 and a PS3 just because it also has a BluRay player. However, I don't yet have the capability to view any HD media except on my computer monitor. Not good enough to justify dropping another $300.

They've both got their pros and cons, the PS3 just has way more cons than pros because Sony massively overestimated their market share in the beginning and they keep making bad business move after bad business move. I'm sold on the X360 until the next generation. Let's see if Sony can clean up their act and win back some customers (ie. me).

Maybe you know this already, but that "fake" look is normally the result of a 120 khz refresh rate, which messes with the appearance of the frame rate. 60 khz will just make things pretty.

Your point about PS3 ports generally being inferior is true, especially in extreme cases like DMC4, where the game had to be "installed" before you could even play it. On the other hand, the Blu Ray format, as you said, does mean better storage capacity. There's no arguing there.

Also bear in mind that even if you don't own many Blu Rays, a Blu Ray player like the PS3 up-converts standard-def DVDs into HD. It's not a perfect transfer, but it makes them look better than the 360's player would.

    Just Devil's Advocate.

yea $300 for a blu ray game player is not worth it for me. Especially when ZBOX has all the games I want, and much better online gaming.

Not to mention the best controller for FPS ever. The PS controller blows for FPS

I still like the Sony Dreamcast as the best system ever. NOT!

N64 will always be the best console, it changed everything.

Hmm I was gonna be harsh on N64, but you do bring up a good point. Its controller helped change things how we played games (analog stick). It was one of the first systems, since atari which came with 4 controller ports. It used an expandable memory bay.

However, they stuck to catridges, the costs of games was way too higher, the limited space on catridges, horrible graphic/music in its game (not to mention the inability to hold CGI video) all were a big let down. Aisde from 1st party nintendo games, I am hard pressed to name any games worth owning for N64.

I did love the controller, loved Mario 64 (one of the best games ever) & some other games, but everything else sucked. lol remember when controllers had cords LOL... i guess theys till do but LAWL

Re: IS THE PS3 BECOMING A GOOD CONSOLE?

LOL N64 came out after Saturn and PSX. It was not going against game gear, SNES, and game boy.... which comparing a console to a hand held is semi-ridiculous, esecially back in those days.

Also, many games before mario 64 gave you a free roaming world... I dont know, like Dragon Warrior, Links, FF, etc... More to the point, mario still limited you to a stage or level, the only free world was the castle, which itself was limited/small. I do not think Mario64 had anything to do with half or all the games you listed. It helped change gaming, but I do not think it had that big of an impact.

MEGA PROPS for calling it a ZBOX.

And I do have to agree, that I definitely got my playtime out of my Xbox. I just like to think that a console should last a long/forever time. Original NES was built to only last for 7-10 years. SNES and N64 are immortal I believe lol. Anyways, technology will break down, but I still think with the price tag, it should not have this type of problem. Hell my original PSX probably still works (My PS2 (original) died on me though, exchanged for another one at my gamestop job :])

I'll never figure out why you all call it a zbox. It doesn't even roll off the tongue well.. certainly not better than xbox.

Zbox rolls so much better. We need more Z words, and some derogatory Z words. Z*pper head i guess is one.

    your limited and small.

and comparing game gear and N64 is like comparing apples to apples.
