NHL09 Anyone getting this? I am. The 2k hockey games don't have the right feel to me. It's a little the graphics, but mostly the controls. I'm going to spend all day studying, then I'm going to get the game. Who's with me? I'm sure I can count Jordan out after last year. You have an xbox, Travis?
Re: NHL09 i might buy a footbal game once my brother gets an xbox.... hockey would be cool, but sports games are a total turn off to me... i cant see spending $50-60 on this "years" nhl when next year the same game with different stats and a few different angles are added and taken away.
Re: NHL09 I have an xbox but I havn't ever played any of the hockey games on systems...i could give it a try if you tell me its good after playing it. Let me know.
Re: NHL09 You have a 360? Get an xbox live subscription... they're about to release a new update that adds ventrilo-style parties. Also get Gears of War 2. And Left 4 Dead.
Re: NHL09 Yea im still super confused on how to get xbox live subscription. I think i registered on the xbox site. I keep geting emails from them so I did something...
Re: NHL09 jesus man why didnt you say something? also where are you at in WoW. I am having fun lvling a priest lol
Re: NHL09 Meh I didn't have alot of time to game any ways I was super busy with magic like every day but mondays...but now that I quit magic I have alot of free time. As for where in wow I am, just fucking around on my warrior done a few quests but realized how pointless it was with the expansion like 2 weeks away right?
Re: NHL09 They've added an RPG style element: Be A Pro mode. You take control of one player, but it's not as frustrating as it sounds. You control when you go out on the ice, you control when players pass to you, you can call for them to shoot it, etc. You're still in the driver's seat and it adds a very personal element to the game. You advance your player's career from the start as a player on the third line in the AHL if you're a forward. I've worked my way up to being a starting forward for the Grand Rapids Griffins already! You may think it's just another angle on the game, but it feels like more than that. You gain experience points in offense, defense, and athleticism to spend on your attributes. I could never finish a full season on dynasty mode in the previous NHL games, but because Be A Pro is such a personal experience, I can see myself playing through many seasons with my skater. I'm pretty sure you can use your skater online, but I'll have to check on that and report it here.
Re: NHL09 Pros: The controls feel a lot more responsive. It's easier to check and player control just feels crisp and intuitive. They've also done some fixing with the skill stick to make it feel more intuitive in accordance with changing camera angles. Puck visualization is much better. It's highlighted in red when no one has control, and orange when an opposing player has control. Be A Pro mode is a HUGE pro for me because it brings a personal feel to the game and a definite replay value. The AI learns. You've got to be very good in order to score the same goal twice. You can now save replays and upload them to the web. Cons: Certain face-offs have a varying degree of predictability when you're playing against an AI opponent. When I played on the Griffins second line, my center (Mark Hartigan) was a complete failure. He won maybe 3 face-offs the whole time I was on his line. However, I did learn where to go upon the loss a face-off and how to turn it into offense as a result of the shitty centerman. Saving replays means you have to encode the video which can take a while. I had to really scrutinize the game to find any cons at all. NHL08's online play was really buggy, and I haven't played online yet at all so I can't tell you how that is. What I can say is that there are several online leagues/clubs, which I didn't see in NHL08 because the online play was so borked. After I evaluate online play, I think those of us that like hockey should grab a copy of this game and play online in a league! I will also say that the on-ice gameplay is stellar. Hope everyone found this info useful.
Re: NHL09 Another massive pro (for me): The music is better, but you can change it if you want. I'm not talking the xbox live in game media player, no. You can set up a playlist on your media computer on your network for good songs to play in the arena when the home team scores a goal, songs to play when the away team scores a goal, when the home team enters the ice, when the away team gets a penalty, and the list goes on. This can be different for every team if you really want to spend the time customizing all that. It is very well integrated and just adds that much more to the game. The customization runs so deep that you can even pick a name for the play-by-play announcer to call you. It's from a pool of hockey players in the NHL, AHL, and IIHF, so chances are if you've got an odd name like Nonenmacher it won't be in there. I picked "Vandermeer" because it almost sounds like "Vandehaar".
Re: NHL09 Woohoo! Play Be A Pro. It's a lot of fun! I want to see if we can play against each other as our pros.
Re: NHL09 ok so I playing the demo of nhl09 last night your gona need to give me a bit of time to get used to playing sports games on consoles havn't played many other than madden.
