    Street Fighter 4

Only played it for an hour, but so far I am disappointed.
Graphics are cool, but game play is lacking.
Cheese moves over and over. Move list is very small. Not many game modes. Training mode sucks.

Mortal Combat vs DC is an overall better game if you ask me.

I try to like street fighter a lot since it's one of the first fighting games I ever played... But dude the more I play it the more it sucks, even the old ones. There's like 8 moves for each character, and then 2 or 3 ridiculously incredibly hard ones to pull off, the rest is about just jumping around / dodging and timing your strikes, there's a lot more strategy to it than most other games though. I like having a huge arsenal of moves though, Dead or Alive 4 remains my FAVORITE fighting game to this day, and it's for 360 also... It's really underrated I love that game, I think people don't take it seriously because it has anime chicks with huge tits all over the place, but it's a really good game.

I bought this fighting stick for SF4 but I returned it a few weeks ago, I decided not to play it, or even buy it at all. I heard the online sucks dick just like any other online fighting game, so there's no point.

SF4 is gay. Hadoken, hadoken, hadoken, hadoken, hadoken, shinryuken, hadoken, hadoken... It gets boring.

Alright, as a fighting game fanatic, with years of experience, I am going to attempt to just breakdown SF4, and absolutely how awesome it is (in regards to the above posts, this is not a debate, it is truth/fact, sorry for walls of text)

    Online Play:

.... I wouldn't knock it. Xbox live online play, has been crystal clear smooth. I would say out of 120 matches, I had 2 that showed signs of lag, and 2 that disconnected during battle. That is pretty frickin amazing if you ask me, for a fighting game. Compared to Soul Calibur, which was the most dissapointing online experience I have had since Hellgate or Vanguard, SF4 is near perfect online.

The problem I have with online play is people's character selection. Seriously, at the lower ranks you will be hard pressed to see someone playing as any other character outside of Ryu/Ken... simply because the masses are used to their moves and their playstyles... I fear when I see someone pick guile or an off beat character, as they are probably beasts with them, or complete idiots. Anyways I have always been a Sagat kinda guy... Tiger Uppercut BEYOTCH

    Amount of moves/repitition:

As for the limited amount of moves, it is rather ingenious how CAPCOM planned this. Rather than load up with a bunch of nonsense moves, Dead or Alive / Tekken / Soul Calibur (be honest, you dont use every move, nice to have them but a lot of them are useless... and just for show) You simplify your move list, with moves that pretty much everyone can pull off, and that all specifically have a purpose (anti air, anti turtle, combo setup, etc...). It goes back to the grass roots of fighting games and street fighter. I am assuming you guys did not play a boat load of street fighter or other fighting games, but even in the past with some simple moves, each character is very diverse in what they can do and how they can be played...

What you dont know is that there are hidden moves, strike abilities, focus attacks, combos, and cancels/fake outs WHICH ALL make the move list much more complex and diverse, but still allow for a novice to come in a put up a fight. I believe they actually loosened up the controls to pull off the moves as well so you can do them quite quickly and easily.

All fighting games get repitious, but with above average online play, a good group of chracters with unique playstyles and quirks, I think this sets a new standard for fighting games. Honestly, when was the last time you actually saw a 2d fighting game... I think guilty gears was the last one I heard of, and it was so so.

Playing CPU gets mind numbing but if you have challenging opponents, and are up for the challenge, it is a lot of fun... of course elitist can ruin that fun, but that is with all games.

Any game online has no point :) an MMO might be the only type of game I see having a point or predetermined outcome/goal to reach... but other than that, all games online or not online are a timesink :)

    Game Play:

I dont know what you mean about Game Play lacking, controls and crystal. Character balance is not an issue, as the move lists provide enough variety to handle different types of opponents. Obviously though, some characters can tend to be weaker to other characters... play skill level makes up the difference here.

Training mode, is training mode... I dont know how they are supposed to improve on this. One thing I would like to see are the old school challenges where you had to bust barrels, or destroy a car, or block/counter basketballs. They should have added a shit ton of these types of levels.

END RANT (can just read italics to summarize post):

Sorry, I am extremly tired today and have been on a SF4 rush I suppose. Felt like voicing myself, as I really do see a quality game here that shines through and has been polished beyond belief.

Sounds like it should have been an Arcade game.

Training mode should be more like DoA. I don't want to have to go through 4 levels of menus to see a move list. I'd like to be able to see the move I just did, or have an on screen guide to follow and light up the correct buttons as they are pressed. Not everyone has every move memorized.

Either way, you should try MKvsDC.

I'm pissed there won't be another DOA game, another reason that game rocked was because of the counter system. Any noob could kick some ass with Ryu if they wanted to, but a skilled player could rock anyone by countering any attack by pressing the right direction + block button. I loved that.

I fucking love that game. Seriously.

Too bad Tecmo and that games creator guy split, I would have wanted to keep playing that series...

Tekken > Street Fighter by the way, for consoles.

Street Fighter should have stayed a quarter game.

    Re: Street Fighter 4

EDIT: SF4 was an arcade game in Japan only, since arcades in USA are not very profitable... Man I remember the glory days of mall arcades. Killer Instinct, SF2, Mortal Kombat I/II oh man there used to be huge fricking lines... I remember in high school when tekken tag came out I beat 55 people in a row lol they just kept coming up... even this little girl maybe 9 years old came up... I whomped the shit out her kangaroo and panda!

i agree with you there bombay. i would have liked if they showed your button input and what not. Seems like such a simple feature to add. Also would have liked, as I mentioned above, some bonus stages or mini games. Just challenges based off of the actual game itself is just reusing the system.

Tekken and DoA I think both had some dope mini games or side games you could mess around with if you were bored of the main game.

As for menus pause, plus A, A... takes like 2 seconds to check command list.

Yea I was pretty beast with Ayane and Hayato. Dead or Alive was cool, and even though the mechanics (ie: tits) were a bit exageratted, it worked. Level design was cool, and tag battles are always a plus in my book. The counter system was dope but way to easy to use... anybody could do nothing but non stop counters if they wanted to. Once you got two people who knew what they are doing, you get a turtle fest. This mechanic works both for and against the game. Tekken does counters right, by making it a little harder to do, and not work against all incoming attacks.

Tekken v Street Fighter are 2 different types of fighting games essentially. Street Fighter is still 2D. I love Tekken, but I like how SF went back to its grass roots, much more enjoyable. I am sure Tekken 6 will be enjoyable, but they almost have too many characters ~_~ although they have done a good job making each unique and having a very healthy set of moves.

Hey ikari, have you found tekken moves like ten times easier to do than soul calibur moves? Some of the moves in SC are fukin retarded hard to pull off. Ivy's throws for instance... i dont even think that finger gestures can achieve that pattern.

that was fun. you should unlock some more characters. But you see how beast I can be and I suck. Plus we had some nasty lag, hurt my brain to play.
